Getting started with Buddhist philosophy.

Summary of the Four Noble Truths:

  1. Disease: Life is suffering (dukkha).

  2. Cause: Suffering is caused by craving

  3. Cure: Suffering can have an end (Nirvana).

  4. Medicine: There is a path which leads to the end of suffering (The Noble Eightfold Path).

Three Marks of Existence:

  1. Duhkha/dukkha (suffering/anxiety/stress)

  2. Anitya/aniccha (impermanence)

  3. Anatman/anatta (soulessness/non-self)

Three Poisons:

1. Rāga (Passion)/Lobha (Greed)
2. Dvesha (Hatred)
3. Moha (Delusion)

Three Virtues:

  1. Dāna (Generosity)

  2. Mettā/Maitrī (Kindness)

  3. Prajñā (Wisdom)

Five Aggregates:

1. Form (rūpa)
2. Feeling (vedanā)
3. Perception (saṃjñā)
4. Mental formations/volition (saṃskāra)
5. Consciousness (vijñāna)

The Noble Eightfold Path:

  1. Right view

  2. Right resolve

  3. Right speech

  4. Right action

  5. Right livelihood

  6. Right effort

  7. Right mindfulness

  8. Right concentration
